It is a dynamic form of yoga that awakens awareness. It uses sets of yogic postures and movements (asana) with meditative focus, breath work (pranayama), and chanting (mantra). In addition to strengthening the health and well-being of the physical body, it is very useful for emotional balance, mental clarity, stress relief, and personal transformation.
Using props and blankets to modify traditional yoga poses. The supportive postures gently open the body to deep relaxation and healing. These classes are ideal for those going through stressful times, suffering from illness, injury or major life changes. Postures are held for extended times,up to 20 minutes, with the support of props. The use of Tibetan bowls and the Gong are use to help deepen the student into a more relaxed state of deep relaxation.
Restorative Flow Yoga
A restorative flow practice differs from a restorative practice by using less props and staying in the postures for a shorter length of time. Using regular hatha postures and holding for 3 to 5 minutes. The postures are done one after the other in a gentle flowing movement.
Restorative flow is a practice that encourages the student to slow down and notice subtle changes within the body. This is an excellent practice for those who want to deeply relax, seniors, those with fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, and arthrititis. Also very therapeutic for those with stress, limited range of motion and those wanting a contemplative practice.
It is a guided meditation class done primarily while resting on the back to clear the mind and create a relaxed and energized experience in the body. Suitable for everyone. I have incorporated the Tibetan bowls and Gong to help deepen the experience.
I have recorded a 45 min. iRest/Yoga Nidra CD, which will be available for sale April 1, 2010. If you are interested please contact me by e-mail or call to order.
, so named because of its correspondence to the Taoist
concept of yin
, is a very distinct style of Chinese yoga similar to hatha yoga
that stretches the connective tissue
rather than conditioning the muscles
, the latter being the aim of most other styles of hatha yoga. Experientially, the practice is characterized by passive asanas
held for several minutes each. Some believe that yin yoga is the oldest form of hatha yoga, since it is the ideal method of physical conditioning for prolonged meditation.
It is a wonderful for people with physical limitations to experience the relaxation and increases flexibility. Many health benefits are seen with regular yoga practice even if you cannot get onto the floor. Suitable for those who have difficulty getting up and down off the floor.
Singing bowls can be used in many different ways, for meditation, healing, clearing spaces, and charging energy into jewelery, malas, and etc. They can open chakras, but this takes time. When these centerers are balanced, one's life becomes more balanced both physically, emotionally and spiritually.
